Introduction
Dr. Tung's Story~ Let's know something about Dr. Jai-Chin Tung

　　When you see someone looks benign and lovely in Tungs' Taichung MeteroHarbor Hospital, there is no doubt that he is the founded superintendent – Dr. Jai-Chin Tung.

　　In 1971, superintendent Tung the eldest son of eight coming from Sha Lu was graduated from National Defense Medical Center. He thought the medical resource along the coastline was not enough, so he made up his mind to found the Tungs' Taichung MeteroHarbor Hospital and service his neighborhood.

　　During the past thirty years, Dr. Tung has worked with his siblings and makes the rounds at least three times a day. The Tungs’ Taichung MeteroHarbor Hospital started from 30 beds; now we have 1175 beds. He encourages all the co-workers to treat the patients as their family, besides offering the best medical care. He inculcated on the people with health education and wished the people to get the best and careful medical services. All the patients can feel his care, release their pain and are grateful to him for his kindness.

　　DDr. Tung lives deeply in the community populace's heart as the healthy-guardian and spirit target. Even though Dr. Tung plays the role of the medical consulter now, there are many his patients asking “where is Dr. Tung?” when they come to our hospital. They think Dr. Tung can cure them of the disease. As long as they can see Dr. Tung himself, they think they will recover soon. When the patients see the familiar figure, they will have the sense of safety in their mind. Such a model of the medical tutelary is just the model of psychotherapy.

　　The following are something you don’t know about Dr. Tung – the trace of history

　　Being eager to make everything better and respecting the precious life Dr. Tung works hard and strictly requests all the staff in the clinic to treat all the patients. They can't neglect their duty and make any mistakes. He asks his staff to do everything precisely. Dr. Tung showed his medical professional cautious and decisive character and clever movement by treating the patient promptly and positively. He saved lots lives from the brink of the grave, such as trauma with excessive bleeding.

　　Besides, you can understand how Dr. Tung restrains himself from his living detail. He is self-critical and requests his co-workers, if he finds the staffs neglecting their duty, he will inculcated them.

　　Dr. Tung has super good memory for the patients and staffs. He can immediately recognize them even though he only saw them once. How wonderful and admirable his memory is.

　　Highly alertness: in the past years, the monitor system was not so widely-used but Dr. Tung combined the physical catadioptric function of mirror to control each case in the emergency room. His belief is that the patients who come to his hospital may struggle in the brink of the death, so we have to do our best without wasting any time.

　　Dr. Tung always kept all the patients who are in hospitalization in his mind. He will review all the patients' records before he visits the patients in the morning. Moreover, he will make the rounds at least three times a day and does one more after work. He asks the staffs to pay more attention to the patients who may change their conditions. Of course, owing to Dr. Tung's suggestion, though something unexpected may happen to the patient, they can get preventive cure in advance. When he took a rest at home, he requested the staffs to fax him the latest information to make him control the patient’s symptom.

　　Dr. Tung comes from a big family and he has many siblings. It is a heavy burden for his parents to raise eight children. He had got into the habit of being thrifty. This virtue not only shows on his living attitude but also on his educating his staffs. For example, he usually requested the staffs to use absorbent cotton, iodine, alcohol and so on in an appropriate way to avoid wasting or dirtying the floor. He asked the staff to turn off the light when they left the room and close the window when the air condition was on...etc. Nowadays, everyone not only likes to talk about those stories but also acquires the good habit – being thrifty.

　　There were many young workers who were graduated from school and worked in the hospital. Dr. Tung trained them strictly and provided them with good quality of medical services; this training promoted both their working ability and living attitude. Besides, Dr. Tung took good care of those ladies. They regarded him as theirs father. Though some of them were married and maternity. Whether they are still working in the hospital or not, they all think the time when they worked under Dr. Tung was the most memorable in their lives.

　　There was another thing worthy of being mentioned. Once ten of our staffs crammed in a Yuloong car to join a feast activity in the neighborhood. After finishing the activity, we took some food for the staffs who were on duty. This scene showed the intimate interactions between the hospital and the communities.

　　We are the first one hospital which does not demand the deposit for the emergency hospitalization. It could avoid being unable to pay the fee and then they could not get the necessary medical service. If the patients were too poor to pay the fee, Dr. Tung would not charge them. Sometimes, he even gave them some financial support. Another story prevailing in the medical field is that the plastic surgery physician, Dr. Ma accepted the help from Dr. Tung while he was young. Up to now he still feels grateful to Dr. Tung and usually talks this story to his friends.

　　Since the Tungs' Taichung MeteroHarbor Hospital was founded, Dr. Tung has worked hard and inculcated on the staffs “we should always bear in mind to save the patients and feedback our neighbors”. Only by his hard work, can the Tungs’ Taichung MeteroHarbor Hospital be founded.

　　The Tung's family set up “Sha Tung Health System” based on the Tungs' Taichung MeteroHarbor Hospital, Nursing Home, and Tung Chung-Sheng Cultural and Educational Foundation, and the long term care facilities (including senior care and rehab therapy) in the future, the psychiatric ward, medical drug & equipment company, and bio-tect…etc. Right now the chairman is our ex-superintendent – Jai Chin Tung.
